According to Aristotle – “We are what we consistently do everyday” and therefore some of the downhill habits we’ve formed over the years are simply not going to disappear overnight!
The good news is, I am not the type to focus on my weaknesses, it’s just too much effort and work and let’s face it – it’s kind of not motivating. I believe in focusing on my strengths so that in time, my positives will eventually out way my negatives along the process – but again that works for me, figure out what works for you.
We form habits and our habits form our lives – which means for us to form uphill habits, it must be about a total MINDSET SHIFT in the way we look at the top of the hill. None of us will change our lives until we change the way we think – I believe that to be so true and so real.
Here are some of the things that I have personally done and continue to focus on to get me to the mountaintop – my top 5 uphill habits among others:
- Focus on God as my source of strength – as a man of faith, I know that I don’t have it in me to get to the mountain top by myself
- Intentionally look for like minded people – you need people in your life that understand the journey you are taking and can encourage you as well as you encouraging them. Simply said, Iron sharpens Iron!
- Share knowledge with others – the more I share the more I learn how to get to the top through peer feedback, masterminds, mentorship et al.
- Lifelong learning – It takes a lot of skill and know-how to get to the top, I keep learning, think differently and upskill so that I increase my creative capacity. I personally don’t go to bed without learning something new – EVERYDAY!
- Keeping positive – I purposefully avoid and run away from negative people and negative situations. I just simply don’t have the energy to indulge in negative talk – it’s so draining! Keep positive and never give up no matter your situation.
I know not everyone wants to get to the top of the hill nor do we all possess what it takes to get there BUT I believe in one way or another, we all have that one area of our lives where we want to be at the top. Whether it’s your career, marriage, family, health, finances or even going for holiday – it takes EFFORT, SACRIFICE, DISCIPLINE, CONSISTENCY and THINKING differently to build uphill habits that will not only get you to the top but keep you there.
