As I was wondering what I wanted to talk about today, I had two very interesting conversations and both for some reason were about our mindsets. Isn’t it so amazing how we have these big expectations but somehow think that things will magically work out just because we have thought about a great idea or dream?
As I was listening in onto these conversations, I thought to myself, we have these big dreams BUT we hate to wake up at 5am to go to the gym, we don’t have time to learn new skills and take risks out of our comfort zones to areas that we surely know could bring us more benefit, we’re not ready to go out meet new people and perhaps find someone who truly loves us – we instead hold onto non existent marriages just to appease a few people, of which 20% don’t really care and 80% of the others are silently happy that your “perfect marriage” never worked out after all, I could go on and on – the question is, who are we lying to?
We tend to have UPHILL GOALS/DREAMS/IDEAS but DOWNHILL HABITS. How in the world is that going to work out? I like how Mr. Maxwell puts it – Everything worth chasing, is uphill! This is so true if you think about it – if you want a good career, a good marriage, a great house, well behaved kids, a six pack or 8 shape – whichever works for you, all this is HARD WORK and EFFORT! Nothing comes easy in life, in fact most of the time, anything that comes easy is not good.
Unfortunately, many people don’t seem to want to climb the hill, they’d rather wait at the bottom and whatever rolls back down the hill is what they settle for! “MOST PEOPLE DON’T LIVE THEIR LIVES, THEY SETTLE FOR THE LIFE THEY THINK THEY HAVE” – It’s so hard to climb the hill, yet so easy to slide back downhill. Think about the mindset you may require to keep climbing no matter how hard it is.
Now, if everything worth chasing is uphill, then that means you have to make a choice to go get it – It takes a change in mindset to want to get to the top of the mountain and it all starts with just ONE STEP. Take the courage to take that one step, growth just doesn’t happen – be intentional about your goals/dreams/ideas and stretch yourself one step at a time and I promise you, with every little step you take, your confidence builds leaps and bounds.
I’d love to read your thoughts on this. And I’ll leave you with this: everyone has something worthwhile to go after. Every person has a dream, a goal or an Idea that can make even the hardest sacrifices feel worth it in the end. Whatever that may be for you, don’t give up on it, prepare your mind to climb that hill. Even if you have to take small steps, take them every day – Do a Johnnie Walker moment – Just Keep Walking.
