The power of reflection

One of the best tools or ideas we can use to evaluate ourselves and grow is REFLECTION! As I go by towards the backend of my day, I’ve gotten into the practice and habit of reflecting – of course it’s not easy to discipline myself and be consistent in this but I try to not let a whole day go by without reflecting on how my day has gone so far. I intentionally create the time and effort to reflect in intervals of 10-15 min during the day at work or at the end of my work day at home.

Do not go through your whole day without pausing and asking yourself how the day/work is progressing because it’s in that moment of reflection that perhaps you discover how to do something better or save time on a task because of a different perspective or even simply being grateful about life.

I like the way John C. Maxwell puts it – “EXPERIENCE is not always the best teacher, EVALUATED EXPERIENCE is the best teacher. It’s not what you did, it’s what you learnt from what you did!

Some questions you can ask yourself every evening/year as you end your day/year:

  1. What have I learnt today/year?
  2. How can I apply what I learnt today/year?
  3. How can I pass this on to others – the best way to learn, is through teaching others what you know.

The bottom line is, take time to reflect about different areas of your life and be intentional about taking action, be flexible and resolve to change things if necessary.
